WSO: Poetic Passions

Worthing Symphony Orchestra Presents…
A passionate and romantic finale to the season!

Dinara Klinton returns to Worthing after her success as the runner-up in the 2015 Sussex International Piano Competition. Since then she has released a CD of the works of Liszt to great critical acclaim. She is performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, where the flowing lyricism beautifully express the love stories such as that depicted in the wartime film ‘Brief Encounter’ where this concerto was used extensively.

Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, from the Peer Gynt Suite, follows the young adventurer’s travels and amorous escapades. Its easily recognisable theme has helped it attain iconic status in popular culture. Sir Hamilton Harty’s A Comedy Overture was premiered at the BBC Proms in 1907 and received ecstatic reviews from the music critic at The Times.

Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 ‘Pathetique’ was so named by his brother, Modest, and is the last of his completed symphonies. Various parts of this symphony have been used by a plethora of songwriters over the decades, usually depicting tales of love, as well as in several films and video games.
