With just two days left to go it’s time to get excited for Panto! This year Worthing Theatres are looking to take a more environmentally friendly approach to our big Christmas production by reducing the sale of single-use plastics in our range of merchandise, as well as fitting new recycling bins into the Pavilion Theatre.

Plastic is a massive global issue because most of it isn’t biodegradable. It doesn’t rot, like paper or food, so instead it can hang around in the environment for hundreds of years. Each year, 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced and 40% of that is single-use – plastic we’ll only use once before it’s binned. As part of efforts to make Panto more environmentally friendly, WTM will not be selling flashing wands or similar single use plastic merchandise at Cinderella. Not only do these wands come individually wrapped in plastic but they are non-recyclable and contain single use batteries which then end up in landfills. But don’t worry, we still have some wonderful gifts available for you to remember your special pantomime visit!

This year we will have three exciting items you can take away to remember your magical experience! You can take home a cuddly Christmas teddy bear to celebrate the festivities for £10. Cinderella’s adorable mice cost £6 each, or you can take home both of them for only £10! You can also keep your very own Cinderella magical slipper with a commemorative keyring for just £3.

In preparation for Panto we are also fitting the Pavilion Theatre auditorium with new recycling bins. Recycling helps protect the environment, reduces landfill, saves energy and conserves resources. It’s an easy way to make a big difference! Which is why we are encouraging everyone visiting the Pavilion Theatre this winter to recycle and providing the facilities to do so.

Rachel Ward, Front of House Manager says ‘It’s always a balancing act in customer service giving a customer what they want and making a change which we know will have a bigger impact in the long run. That’s why this year we felt it was our duty to greatly reduce our use of plastic in all areas of our organisation and encourage our customers to do so too. Please support us with this change by ensuring your rubbish reaches the correct bin, or taking home a gift that won’t end up in a landfill. With 64 performances of Cinderella,  we are leading by example & educating our audiences from a young age so they can play a part in the future and we can go forward in this together.’
