Matt’s Comedy Club Presents: Joanna Neary – Character Comedian
Joanna Neary returns to Matt’s Comedy Club with a one-woman show combining razor sharp satire and highly original character comedy, on what it means to try and be creative. In her capacity as a housewife and ex-art student, this is a hilarious look at the world through the eyes of a whole host of startling unknowns and familiar celebrity guest characters, all doing their best to express themselves in this extraordinary life.
Jo was nominated for the Edinburgh Best Newcomer Award for her first show JN Is Not Feeling Herself and went on the win several awards and star as Judith in six series of Ideal on BBC2 with Johnny Vegas. Jo made a pilot for BBC2 starring her repressed housewife based on Celia Johnson from Brief Encounter. Her comic monologues have been performed on BBC3, Radio 4, Radio 2, BBC4, Paramount and ITV.
Matt’s Comedy Club is Worthing’s family-friendly night out with a clean comedy ethos, entertaining the local community since 2008.
“Neary is a character actress par excellence; not only are her characters well observed and immaculately performed, but they are well written and, most importantly, funny”
“Neary is a fiercely gifted actor and her short monologues are peppered with clever songs and silly dances. The real joy here is the character based on Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter, a pitch-perfect impersonation taken to its logical conclusion. This is a show that leaves you with a huge smile and a renewed sense of delight in daftness”
