One of Britain’s most loved female comedians, Jo Brand, will be taking on the role of the Magic Mirror in Worthing Theatres pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, through the use of a special pre-recorded video, which will be projected onto the mirror for the production.

Long established as one of the UK’s best female comics Jo Brand is the star and writer of Getting On, the BBC’s BAFTA award-winning series set on a hospital’s geriatric ward, which was partly inspired by her earlier career in nursing, she also wrote and starred in the recent BBC follow up Going Forward. Jo’s other television credits also include Jo Brand’s Hot Potatoes (BBC1), Damned (Channel 4) and the award-winning Through the Cakehole (Channel 4). Jo Brand will also be presenting Kitten Rescuers (Channel 5), a documentary special following RSPCA inspectors, vets and volunteers.

Jo is multi-talented to say the least from taking the part of The Sergeant of Police in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance at London’s Gielgud Theatre, facing the formidable Alan Sugar for Comic Relief Does the Apprentice and learning to play the organ for a sell-out audience at The Royal Albert Hall. Jo has also written several highly acclaimed best-selling books Can’t Stand Up For Sitting Down, Look Back In Hunger and The More You Ignore Me.

The rest of the cast for the pantomime has now been announced, with the one and only pop singer Chesney Hawkes playing the Prince. The Wicked Queen will be played by West End and X Factor star Niki Evans. Cbeebies Swashbuckle duo Richard David-Caine and Joseph Elliott will play Muddles and the Queen’s henchman Herman. Simon Howe makes a welcome return as The Dame after appearing in The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan last year, and West End star Cassie Compton plays the title role of Snow White.

Amanda O’ Reilly, Head of Culture for Adur & Worthing Council, says “We’re thrilled to secure the incredible talents of Jo Brand as our Magic Mirror for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We wanted to cast a top comedian for the video projection and Jo certainly is just that, she has the perfect type of humour to guarantee lots of laughter in our pantomime this Christmas.”
