On Wednesday 20 July three members of the Worthing Theatres team will be joining forces to raise money for local charity Chestnut Tree House as they attempt to tackle the 10km run Beat The Tide – in Peter Pan costumes.

Beat the Tide is a 10km run across Worthing’s seafront, which begins on the foreshore of Coast Café, Beach Parade at 7pm. The race is anticipated to fill its capacity of 400 runners who book in advance, and a further 100 on the day, and costs £13-15 for entry. Prizes for the first man and lady will be unique artwork from local artist Tom Freer and everyone who completes it will earn a bespoke finisher medal.

The Worthing Theatres team will be running to raise money for Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice. The charity provides hospice care services and community support for children and young people with progressive life-shortening conditions throughout East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire.

The theme is based on the Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan which has been announced as this year’s panto at the Pavilion Theatre, taking place from 2 December to 8 January. The lead cast were recently announced, including X Factor’s Amelia Lilly and Daniel Lloyd, as well as Richard McCourt from Dick n’ Dom and comedian Patrick Monohan.

Runner Stephen Sheldrake, Press Officer for Worthing Theatre, said: “We’re very excited to be involved in Beat The Tide which is a challenging and thrilling race, and being able to raise money for Chestnut Tree House, a wonderful local charity, is a privilege. All the support we receive is greatly appreciated!”

Jay McCardle, Sussex Trail Events says: “This will be the second running of Beat The Tide (Pun intended), we sold out last year so don’t miss out on the only race against nature, and don’t wear your best trainers!”

Nicky Ifould, Events Fundraiser for Chestnut Tree House, said: “We are thrilled that Worthing Theatres are supporting Chestnut Tree House by taking part in Beat The Tide. Every penny raised by the team will go directly towards caring for the children that Chestnut Tree House supports.”

To get involved in the fundraising, visit www.justgiving.com/ChestnutRun to donate to Worthing Theatres Just Giving campaign where funds go directly to Chestnut Tree House. For every £50 raised Worthing Theatres will donate a pair of tickets for Peter Pan which will go to families of the charity.
